From Rotors to Routines: How Pulsar Simplifies Complex Processes Pulsar / Hofmann Global

Illustration of many small rotors, with a large rotor labeled in the center

The Pulsar software was developed to make complex balancing processes understandable, efficient, and safe. Different rotor configurations, variable workflows, and numerous correction options require a user interface that reduces technical complexity and reliably guides users through the entire process. Through a clear design language, visual aids, and structured workflows, the software combines intuitive usability with professional functionality. The accessible design system, flexible workflows, and transparent process guidance enable both beginners and experienced users to work efficiently and with confidence in demanding industrial environments.

Challenge and Usage

Anything that rotates has a certain degree of imbalance. If the object is large, heavy, or rotates very quickly, this imbalance must be corrected. Hofmann manufactures precision equipment specifically for this task—ranging from specialized to universal balancing machines. These solutions are used in a wide variety of industries, including the automotive industry, the energy sector, aerospace, the process industry, rail vehicle manufacturing, and machine tool manufacturing.

Intuitive Support for Complex Balancing Processes

The Pulsar software guides users safely through complex processes such as configuration, measurement, and balancing. Since workflows can vary greatly depending on the rotor design and type of imbalance, the software supports each phase with visual aids, clear design elements, and structured workflows. This reduces operator errors, simplifies processes, and significantly improves user-friendliness. The interface is structured around the central workflow and divided into sections for data management, rotor types, and the actual balancing process.

"Through its collaboration with HMI Project, Pulsar has become a solution that combines intuitive operation with professional functionality. Even during complex balancing processes with numerous correction options, the user is guided reliably. This ensures that processes are carried out completely and without errors."

Clean Design Language and a Functional User Interface

The user interface is based on a clear, accessible design system that uses the Satoshi Variable typeface family. It combines high readability with flexible adaptability for different contexts and screen sizes. Building on the corporate design, functional colors, clear status indicators, and compact rotor graphics provide orientation and ensure quick comprehension. Colors are specifically used as a functional layer of information to make states, tolerances, and correction levels intuitively understandable—without relying solely on color to convey information.

Outstanding Design

Industry experts recognized the UI/UX design with the prestigious Red Dot Award:

This award confirms our expertise in translating complex industrial requirements into excellent, user-centered design.

“It is always about the tension between identity and differentiation, between tradition and innovation as well as between evolution and revolution.”

Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, Red Dot CEO

Flexible Workflows with Maximum Control and Transparency

Input fields, controls, and workflows are designed to enable both beginners and experienced users to work efficiently. Intelligent prompts, context-sensitive information, and immediate feedback guide users step by step through the process without feeling rigid. The software automatically and transparently documents all steps, while also allowing for flexible adjustments and subsequent changes. This way, users remain in control at all times and can focus entirely on their task.
