Corporate UI for the COESIA Group OptiMate / Coesia

›OptiMate‹ is a modular corporate UI system that was developed for the Coesia Group. It can be flexibly adapted to the requirements of their extensive machine portfolio. Originally conceived as an HMI project for track & trace solutions, more than 13 individual projects have been created for 7 different subsidiaries of the Italian company since then. The user interface always follows a process-based navigation principle to enable intuitive machine operation. Along with a large number of guided workflows, it includes informative statistics, a sophisticated alarm system, and detailed illustrations, among other things, to ensure a uniform operating concept.

Challenge & Use

Coesia is an Italian group of companies with 20 subsidiaries operating worldwide. These subsidiaries are mainly involved in the development of automated processing and packaging machines, testing and image processing systems, digital printing technologies, conveyor belt solutions, and precision gears.

For the machine and system developers Hapa AG and Laetus GmbH (formerly Coesia), a joint operating concept was initially developed. In order to address the diverse requirements of both companies equally in one Human Machine Interface (HMI), a generic approach was followed that has since evolved into a globally-used corporate User Interface (UI).

Consistent Design for Reliable Production

Thanks to a uniform and clear operating concept, machine operators can quickly find their way around. This is especially advantageous when several machines from different Coesia subsidiaries are located in one production line, as it can greatly reduce teach-in times and production errors. Even individual solutions always follow a common visual language, allowing for the possibility of defining new overarching design standards.

Features & Advantages

Process-based navigation allows operators to quickly enter and switch between process steps. This, combined with the ability to switch between different machine modes, creates more clarity and reduces complexity. In addition to a variety of guided workflows, the system offers extensive analysis and diagnosis options to ensure continuous production operation. The Operation Support Platform also provides a convenient interface to integrate future digital solutions such as AR, VR, and Machine Learning, and thus systematically expand the software.

Corporate Style Guide

Throughout the projects, a large number of controls, illustrations, icons, design patterns, and color definitions were created. Their characteristics and specifications are documented in a comprehensive style guide. This corporate UI style guide was created in the web-based design tool Figma, along with its associated component library. These tools allow us to ensure a uniform appearance and consistent brand identity across all projects, while also facilitating real-time collaboration with project managers. This streamlines the design process, shortens coordination rounds, and, in the long run, transfers know-how from UX/UI to our clients.
