The user can operate the system via the multi-touch display, physical buttons and the rotary control, either directly on the power pack or on the lamp. The interface is designed so that even complex lighting situations can be set up in a visually appealing way. Each of the three light channels can be configured individually. Challenge and Use

For over 65 years, Bron Elektronik AG has been shaping the world of commercial photography. Under the brand broncolor, the company produces professional flash and ambient light solutions for the photo and video industry, specifically designed for demanding and complex lighting situations.

For the redesign of the Satos & Pulso L power packs, the goal was to create a clear, consistent and intuitive user interface that seamlessly integrates into the product design and represents the brand's values. For maximum ease of use and reliability, the units can be operated using both the touch display and the integrated hardware buttons and dials.

Flexibility for maximum creativity

The aim was to create a single operating concept that could be applied to both the power pack (7" display, multi-touch) and the lamp (1.69" display). The result is a clear and consistent design system that is strongly aligned with the broncolor brand image. All settings can be adjusted individually per channel or across channels. This flexibility needed to be translated into a screen design that is as simple and visually appealing as possible, making operation easier for users with limited technical understanding. In addition, a help system was integrated to visually explain all the setting options.

A light theme was also designed for very brightly lit scenarios (e.g. strong sunlight), in addition to the standard dark skin developed for indoor or dark shooting situations.

User-Centered & Usability-Optimized

The user has tremendous freedom of operation: every setting can be controlled via the multi-touch display, physical buttons, the dial, on the power pack or lamp, or via an app or API. Communication between the power supply and the lamp is bi-directional. User surveys and subsequent usability tests showed that the new touch control was well received, but the tactile rotary control for fine-tuning the light intensity was clearly preferred.

The combination of touch panel and hard keys forms the basis of a comprehensive and efficient operating concept that covers a wide range of user preferences and needs.
